Cllr. Rosemary Torrington - Thamesfield

Rosemary has lived in Thamesfield for fifteen years and has been an active campaigner of behalf of local residents for the past eight years as a local councillor. Alongside representing Thamesfield Ward at the council, Rosemary is chairman of the Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee and sits on the Finance and Corporate Resources Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

She practised as a commercial lawyer for ten years before moving to work for a charity providing care and education for children with emotional, social or behavioural needs. Initially, she combined legal advice with fund-raising, but found the projects made possible as a result of the funds raised were highly effective in improving children's lives and as such decided to focus on these.

As chairman of the Passenger Transport Liaison Group she has been an advocate for: improved, modern river transport; a second entrance at Putney station to alleviate congestion and for more efficient bus and rail services. Rosemary met the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, when he came on a fact-finding visit to research river transport, and suggested to him that he introduce Oyster on river transport, an initiative he adopted and has benefited Londoners ever since.

As Chairman of the Putney Partnership marketing group she seeks to attract investment and footfall to Putney through events like the Christmas market and has urged developers to provide community benefits such as a town centre public square and larger retail units to increase the range of Putney shops.

As a member of Justine Greening's Thames Tunnel Group she has worked with residents to identify the best solutions to reduce the environmental impact of transport of spoil by river and to secure long-term improvements at the Thames Tunnel excavation sites.

Rosemary has acted on behalf of many local residents on issues such as night flights at Heathrow, planning, improved cycling facilities, crime and parking. She is a governor of Brandlehow Primary School.

In her spare time Rosemary enjoys London's galleries and likes walking and cycling. She enjoys Wandsworth Park and was instrumental in obtaining an increase in the size of the playground and better equipment.
