Heathrow
Currently ‘runway alternation’ provides residents a break from aircraft noise for half the day. However, this summer the Government plans to look into a fresh consultation to expand Heathrow. There have been discussions of a third runway which would mean more flights over Putney. Justine Greening, MP for Putney, and the Wandsworth Conservative Action Team are determined to voice the concerns of Putney residents.
We recognise the importance of Heathrow in London, but we want to push for other alternatives to be examined for the sake of residents. A 2006 ICM Research poll found that 40% of residents found aircraft noise during the day to be a nuisance and 44% feel it has gotten worse over the last 10 years. Increases in aircraft noise are unacceptable and unfair to local residents.
Wandsworth Conservatives are campaigning for improvements and combating government plans that would negatively influence those living below flight paths. We are determined to let the government know that residents below flight paths will not put up with increases in flight traffic and air noise.
